Drug Treatment in the United States
Over the course of the last several years, an estimated 22 million Americans were classified with substance dependence or abuse in the past year and in need of drug treatment. Of these, 3.3 million were dependent on or abused both alcohol and illicit drugs; 3.6 million were dependent on or abused illicit drugs but not alcohol; and 15.4 million were dependent on or abused alcohol, but not illicit drugs.
However, only about ten percent of people in the US in need of treatment actually receive it each year. This is why friends and family members become important to individuals in need of addiction treatment - to get them to receive the help they need in a qualified and successful drug rehab program.
